Do They Know It’s Christmas?

Do They Know It's Christmas Time? While grocery shopping last week I heard The Barenaked Ladies’ version of Do They Know It’s Christmas. It did strike me as odd that this song would be covered so recently (2004), and broadcast through the store as if it was a Christmas classic. I believe Nat King Coles’ version of The Christmas Song followed — now that’s a classic. And while Do They Know It’s Christmas is a “classic,” in the lyric department it is certainly a dated classic. The production, of course, is just a wonderful product of its time. In honour of Bob Geldof and Midge Ure’s original production, we have done our best to stay as true as possible to this “classic” Christmas song (with a Kawai R100 drum machine and a Casio SK1 keyboard in an “all analogue” recording environment featuring a Fostex R8 reel-to-reel machine). This version was recorded with friends in autumn of 2000 (we think…)

This rounds out our trilogy of music from Christmas past. Enjoy responsibly.
